Case Study: Complete project management

Building a new offshore facility comes with many challenges. Total E&P Danmark’s Tyra redevelopment project is more demanding than most.

A vital component in Denmark’s energy supply, the Tyra field provides 90% of the country’s gas requirements. This redevelopment project is the largest investment ever made in the Danish North Sea, worth US$3.2 billion.

Following Cables International’s successful work on the Total UK Culzean project, we were Total’s preferred choice to manage the cables supply on this project.

With the owner in Denmark and project management, design and construction teams spanning Malaysia, Dubai, India, Indonesia and Singapore, the major technical and logistical challenges were clear at the outset. Total knew they would need experienced support in coordinating this massive operation.

Cables International appointed a senior manager and support team dedicated to the project. For two years, the team has worked tirelessly to handle the complex technical, logistical, certification and delivery issues arising from such a large and high-profile project. The team has successfully streamlined the cable supply process and met Total’s tight deadlines.

Despite the project’s size, technical complexity and the geographical challenges, the Cables International team has ensured that all cables were manufactured to the extensive project design and classification requirements and were in-place and on-time to ensure complete project success.

Poor design, construction and operation can result in high operating costs, increased fuel consumption and a shorter operating life for machinery. At the same time, insufficient safety management can lead to losses of cargo, reputation and even life.
